Stay and Play group suitable for accompanied children and babies

We offer you and your child a variety of nature and outdoor play opportunities that will usually start out with an exploratory time during the 5 minutes (adult time )to base camp as a meandering 30 minute playful journey, which provides adventure and physical challenges along the way. We love it when you share your child's discoveries with us!
For the under 5's sticks, stones, moss and mounds of earth, little seeds and bright flowers are all wonders to question for their enquiring minds and their keen eyes will spot movement and wildlife readily, or enjoy noticing the weekly changes. We teach through compassionate story or playful interludes to accompany this self led learning and curiosity , sometimes adults learn along the way too, but often the children are also the teachers!
No week is the same as we lay out a variety of play, and the children come up with all sorts of ideas during that journey or at our base camp.
Our terms provision includes many play options for child led nature inspired and elemental play, and also includes Wild Arts and Woodland crafts.
Each week is tailored depending on the individual developmental stages, and the developing fascinations and interests of each of the participants with respect to the weather on the day. As the group learns and grows together their skills build, on the previous weeks learning.
The benefits of attending Roaming Wild forest school long term, only become apparent over time. Nature changes daily but some aspects are slower and giving your child these experiences both unique and some repetitive options over the seasons will enable both deeper relationship with nature and each other. Children need time to develop their own knowledge, strengths and this repetition in different seasons deepens their understanding, but we also offer a dynamic and seasonal curriculum that promotes their holistic development through observations, participation, language and social skills, through practice, independence, and alongside their carer, we both support their acquisition of first hand knowledge through enquiry, physical and creative abilities, social skills and language, ultimately promoting a confidence in their own abilities to acquire knowledge and problem solve.
Although just dropping in for a few weeks is fun, Forest School is intended as a year round community that can safely be together and build on learning, through discovery and inquiry, risky play problem solving and use of tools, creative opportunities, refining skills independence and increasing understanding over time, each week your child is growing in confidence in their capacities. This is a slower calm but still exciting way of learning.
To our initial surprise Adults around the child will often benefit from our group. Previous groups have spent time together on combined craft projects as well as just being in nature. We invite parents to assist their child but all activities are optional.
Our community welcomes new Mothers with babies and will support their needs, while this is not exclusively for mothers, it is a welcoming space for parents during maternity leave /or adoption leave and as your child grows you may request other adults bring your child, when you have to return to work.
Carers who may be grandparents; Aunts, or Foster Parents or Childminders are also welcome and we offer multi age friendship and shared experiences.
Parents have commented that they enjoy the coming, (doing crafts & enjoy the company) and learning as much as their little ones.
We also credit the woodlands with kind permission of the Woodland Trust, which have a very important role in making our sessions so special; promote well being, help children to learn and probably is the traditional play space of mankind's offspring of previous generations for millennia.
Generally suitable for 0 Months to 70 Months, and this community can be both dynamic and exciting but also add a calm haven for child-led discovery or sensory play.
We can also offer a weekly adult directed activity for those who may have chosen home education. If this is your interest please bring this to our attention.
This Monday group is booked subject to minimum numbers being reached in the cohort, and will run term-time and is booked separately to our holiday sessions. Occasionally the first and last sessions may overlap. Our cohorts may/ could include older home educated children.
Our Sessions for multi-aged learning are based in Knaphill.
